It was Murphy's Law -- our digital camera died two days before our big vacation. I didn't have time to do a lot of research, I just needed another camera. The local camera stores were too pricey, and the staff at the big box stores were useless when it came to helping me select a camera.

These are the times when I love Amazon. I was able to sort by price, read comments, and order with 1-day delivery. Our camera arrived less than 12 hours before our flight departed and I'm thrilled to say that the camera performed beautifully, right out of the box.

Loved the "easy auto" settings, as well as the ability to switch to more manual-style controls to account for sunsets, water glare, overcast skies, etc. The only bad photos out of the batch were the ones when someone stepped into the frame!

We're pretty camera-savvy, so I didn't install the software. Instead, we simply pop out the memory card and use the slot on our laptop to download photos.

One note: I probably missed this in my haste, but since this camera comes with internal memory, the package does not include an SD card. Luckily for us, we had a 2 GB card from our deceased camera and were able to reformat it for the Nikon.

Bottom line: a great value, excellent photos, easy to carry in a jeans pocket, and lightening-fast delivery thanks to Amazon! I'd definitely recommend this camera for a no-hassle vacation memory-maker.

I bought this camera based on past experiences with Coolpix cameras, and the L20 carries most of what I've liked into the 10-megapixel line. Some pros and cons:

* The use of normal AA batteries is probably the best feature of this camera. It keeps the L20 from being a super-slim, sexy piece of jewelry, but the importance of being able to keep inexpensive spare batteries around, or of being able to just run into a drugstore and buy more batteries in a pinch, is not to be underestimated. I usually use NiMH rechargeables (Kodak brand at the moment, but I have also used Energizer) and have had no problems with the camera.

* The easy-auto mode of the camera pretty much does all the thinking for you. Occasionally, I will switch to macro mode or the scene used for backlit objects, but other than that, it's strictly point-and-shoot.

* Low-light pictures come out grainier than I would like, but that is to be expected with this level of product.

* My biggest gripe is that Nikon decided to put the SD card slot behind the battery door. I believe they did this to cut down the number of breakable doors on the camera, but I much preferred being able to easily get to the SD card, since I have readers in my PC and laptop. I have almost never used the supplied USB cables for image transfer. Since the battery door is a bit balky, I am afraid that since I'm going to be going in there a lot for the SD card, it is prone to break even more than a standalone door would be. This is not a deal-breaker, but I think Nikon took a step backward.

All in all, I am pleased with Amazon's pricing and service, as usual. The Nikon L20 is a great little camera.

I love Canon Elph cameras. They take amazing pictures, are easy to use and are the perfect size to take anywhere. I bought this one after my Canon Elph 700 model fell into the water at Busch Gardens. I am so happy with it. They finally improved the first shot delay. With an 18 month old, the delay on my old camera was killing me and I was missing some good moments due to the delay. I am sure that there are better cameras out there but for the price this one is a great choice. Check Consumer Reports, this one is rated as the #1 best buy for compact digital cameras.

It's a very basic camera that takes pictures that are anything but basic. Very easy to use. Small and light-weight. Excellent picture quality. No complaints.

I love this camera. It takes sharp pictures with good oolor. It is small, easy to use, and responds quickly. I wanted a camera with a viewfinder because I go days at a time with no opportunity to recharge, and so I leave the LCD off.

This camera takes professional quality pictures in auto mode! Just hold down the shutter button half way, it automatically focuses, stabilizes, chooses the best seen type, then you press the shutter button all the way down and boom, you have yourself a knock out picture. The LCD screen is so bright and looks like a HDTV Plasma quality image! It takes awesome night time pics as well! I recently went to an Aquarium. I got National Geographic quality photos through the glass by keeping it in auto and pressing the flash button twice to turn off the flash and was amazed! I've had so many people on Facebook ask me what kind of camera I have, they can't believe the quality of the photos I post. I got the camera for $169.99 on Amazon and free shipping! I got the dark gray with the matching gray canon leather case and love it! Buy this camera, you won't regret it! And remember to get an SDHC memory card. I got the Sandisk 8 GB on Amazon for $11.99, reg. $59.99! Steal it while you can!

I needed a small digital camera for my wife to carry around. I didn't want to spend too much. Also I wanted to have it converted to infrared. This camera was exacted what I needed. It is small, responsive, sensitive in very low light situations, cost only $129 to have it converted to "infrared only". The pictures are great! I carry it with me more than the much heavier in weight and price Canon G-10, also converted to infrared.

Can't comment on its use as an unconverted camera, but from what I can see, it would have been a good one.

It's easy to use and the picture quality is very good. So this is one purchase that I'm very happy with. I would prefer that it can with a rechargeable battery but if you keep spare batteries on hand that shouldn't be a problem.

I love my little red camera, but there are a few things I would improve.

What I like?
1. Small, compact and takes pretty clear pics.
2. Takes reasonable video clips and you can hear the sounds about as well as any other camera I have had (to say not great, but you can hear).
3. One had zoom, great for when you have your hands full.
4. Huge display.

What I would improve?
1. You cannot zoom out once you start the video recording. You can zoom in more, and then back to where you started, but if you start the video in partial zoom, there is no way to go all the way back out. At least not that I have found.
2. It takes a few seconds to "warm up" when you turn it on. It wants you to select your mode and then the rebound time seems fine for me (mostly taking pics of my kids).
3. HATED the auto select mode, in terms of what type of pic it would take. The thing could not seem to make up its mind, so I selected the standard auto mode and now it works fine. In the camera's defense, I didn't read the manual before trying it out so I might be doing something wrong, but if I can't just point, shoot and have a good pic, I don't care. That is all fixed when you just select a picture mode - the rest of my pictures are great.
