Nikon Digital Cameras – Views From Viewers.

Bigger Isn’t Always Better

While digital SLR cameras are quite impressive and take beautiful pictures, they aren’t always the best digital cameras if you’re just looking to take casual pictures.  If you just need something to take pictures for vacations or simple family gatherings, then you don’t need a huge camera.  Smaller digital cameras can still take great pictures and are much more portable and easy to use, so don’t overlook the small cameras. First off let me say I really like my Nikon coolpix. But when I was buying the Nikon Coolpix L20 camera as a gift and the leather case was advertised as a companion item. I naturally assumed the camera would actually fit in the case. It did not. The case itself is very nice and I will find other uses for it but felt I was mislead on this purchase.

Point-and-shoot digital cameras are the best selling digital cameras for good rerason. This is because they are simple and easy to use cameras mainly for those who don’t consider themselves good at photography or don’t enjoy learning about a lot of things just to take a picture. Hence the name point and shoot. They have been so popular for so long  because you can also easily take photographs at events like vacations, parties, reunions and other events so easily.

While using a point-and-shoot digital camera, remember that it is digital. There is an LCD display and as soon as you take your photo you can look into the LCD display and you can check it if you have timed it well, weather it is the correct pose you required and whether you can make some adjustments and can take another picture .

This camera is easy to use and it takes unbelievable pictures. The quality and size of the lens make all the difference in the world. I bought this camera for my wife and it was so good I bought one for my grandson who is into taking pictures. My wife loves it and my grandson really loves it. It is a little big for a point and shoot camera but well worth the bother of a slightly larger camera than say a smaller Coolpix. My wife had a small Coolpix but since she picked up the L100 she has not touched the smaller camera. Also the L100 takes regular batteries that last a long time and they are cheap and readily available. I was not in a hurry to buy a camera so I watched the Ebay listings for a few weeks and saved a lot of money.

Toshiba Digital Camera – Not Recommended – Discontunued

I have owned this camera for 2 years now and it finally bit the dust.

I still think it holds the title for best bang for the buck in the 3-megapixel range. I really enjoyed all of the manual features and fine-tuning capabilities. The remote control is a great feature for group photos. The long exposure times can generate some very interesting night shots. In short, I don’t have any complaints about the features of the camera.

Last weekend the camera died. I got just over 2 years and 2000 pictures out of it. I researched the failure to see if there was a known fix out there on the Internet. No such luck.

I did discover that there seems to be some serious reliability issues with this particular model. I found 1 good piece of advice to find out how reliable a camera is: check the completed auctions on your favorite auction website and see what percentage of the cameras being sold are non-functional or are manufacturer reconditioned units. If found about 60% of the 65 units sold were dead or rebuilt PDR-3300’s. I checked the Canon A70 for comparison – only about 7% of the 320 units sold were dead or rebuilt.

My recommendation would be to either purchase an extended warranty or just don’t expect a lot of life out of the camera. It sounds like I did pretty well with a 2 year run. I’ll miss this camera, but won’t buy another Toshiba.

Digital SLR (Advanced Series) of Samsung digital cameras offers features and capabilities which are more significant for professional use. If you’re you’re interested in a ultra-portable camera, simple, straightforward point-and-shoot camera, the Samsung TL100 will definitely make your list of possibilities based solely on its size. The brushed stainless steel body of this lightweight camera is just 16.6 mm thick, not counting the lens. In a world of advanced technology, it takes a lot to surprise me nowadays, but the tiny size of this camera was still enough to startle. The back of the camera is loaded with a huge 2.7-inch LCD, plus a smattering of buttons, including the four-way rocker button that controls flash, timer, Macro, and Display settings. So far, so good, although the second thing I noticed, after the small size of the camera, was the small size of those buttons. This isn’t a camera meant for people with large or uncoordinated fingers.

This camera has 12.2 megapixels and a 3x optical zoom. I wasn’t sure what to expect in terms of image quality and operation, having never handled a Samsung before, but for the most part, these are nice photos. The camera does offer up to 3200 ISO for low light conditions, and this is perhaps where the limitations of the processor show up most: compared to a recent Canon I tested, which handled 3200 smooth like butter, this camera dissolved in a fever of noise, producing an image that almost looked like a movie still, with harsh, unrealistic outlines and odd lighting. It’s a pretty cool effect, actually, but it’s far from realistic.

If you are looking for a one-touch camera, there aren’t a lot of buttons on the TL100. There isn’t much you can do with the camera simply by pushing a button. In fact, I thought at first that maybe this model just didn’t offer any advanced settings. The top contains just the zoom control and the Smart Auto button. Smart Auto operates much like Auto itself, except it’s designed for totally novice users: it disables advanced functions and automatically selects the proper scene mode for the environment. Putting this control on top of the camera is a great idea, but where were all the Scene modes themselves, or the flash, white balance, and metering adjustments that the manual claimed were available?

The Samsung Sl102 is a Consumer Reports recommended subcompact digital camera. Cost is around $135.00.

HP digital cameras are available in varied mega pixel resolutions and varied zoom options. HP digital cameras also incorporate self timers, burst modes, video and normal shooting modes etc. HP digital cameras have approximately 20 picture modes. Secure digital memory is provided with almost all HP camera models. HP Photosmart R967 is a powerful camera with 10 MP camera and a 3x optical zoom and a 3” display with a wide viewing angle.

I used an HP digital camera for a good number of years primarily taking photos for Ebay listings. Worked well and I never had a minutes worth of trouble. I wore out the little door where the mem card went so I retired it.

I haven’t checked but I don’t think HP makes cameras any longer. But there should be a good number of used ones for sale on on Ebay.

I bought this camera about a year and a half ago, and have NEVER had any problems with it. I’ve taken thousands of photos, and so far, everything works perfectly. I’m amazed at the clarity of the pictures I’ve taken with it. I rarely get a bad shot.

I’m curious about the problems people have listed in their negative reviews. Based on my personal experience, and the experiences of many of my friends who own the same camera, I’d have to say user error on the part of any negative reviews on this product. I figure if you can’t figure out how to use an XTI (or one of the newer models Canon has out now) then you might want to try out a lower quality camera such as a Nikon. Nikon produces lesser quality, substandard cameras that won’t make you feel bad if they break. Canon cameras are more professional, higher quality products and shouldn’t be just given to any child to play with. If you want to give a child a camera to play around with, ANY nikon will do. Leave Canon cameras to REAL PROFESSIONALS.

I highly recommend a Canon Digital Rebel XTI to anyone who is looking for a true professional camera.

This is SUCH a good camera. I bought it but someone dropped it in water and it broke, so the guy bought me a Canon camera. I just sold it and bought this one again, because it is sooo incomparable. This camera is so user-friendly and takes such great quality photos! I had no problem at all with the seller – the camera came really quickly and in great condition. I’m so happy with this purchase!

Over the past seven years I’ve owned three different Canon digital cameras, upgrading as each camera reached its limit in terms of current features. Actually I probably would’ve held off for another year if my trusty SD800 hadn’t broken.

In the past I’ve considered Panasonic but with my last two purchases my familiarity with the Canon functions/operations stopped me from trying a Panasonic. Another factor that has attracted me to Panasonic has been the Leica lens. When making this most recent purchase decision I compared the DMC-FS15 to comparable Canons. The main difference was the price with the Panasonic Lumix’s being significantly less expensive.

I decided to finally give Panasonic a chance. The Lumix has not disappointed. I’ve taken two weeks worth of photos while on my family vacation. I took a variety of photos during the day and night and with a lot of movement (i.e. my family at Disney World). I really like how well the FS15 takes pictures without my needing to adjust settings. At the same time it still has a multitude of manual and other automatic settings that come in handy. For me the 5x Optical Zoom and the wide angle lens were the main selling points. I considered the Lumix ZS3 for its 12x wide angle zoom but decided that for my purposes the 5x would suffice.

There are only three things that I do not like about the FS15. First it does not use a standard USB cable, so I might be in trouble if I ever forget to pack the cable or lose it. Also the extra batteries are on the pricey side and it seems (based on internet reviews) that there are issues with 3rd party batteries. The other annoyance is the manner in which one switches the camera to movie mode. With the Canon it was turn a flick of the dial. With the Lumix, you’ve got to press the mode button, scroll down to movie, and select. This can be problematic if you want to capture a video right away. However despite these minor issues I still really like the FS15. Based on my picture current experience with the FS15 I can highly recommend it. Plus the price on Amazon is great!
